It is so sad that when we are young, we think that we know everything, and we think that our elders know nothing.
We think that our elders don't know, because our world is different than their world.
*****************************************************
But, you know the funny thing? The one constant in "their" world and "our" world is people. And fundamentally, people don't change that much from one generation to the next. And our elders, they know people. And knowing people, is knowing life.
They've had a lifetime to learn the intricacies of the hairy ape. And they've had a lifetime of mistakes to learn from - theirs, and those of others. And they've had time to know both with their hearts, and with their heads.
So, the next time your elder cares enough to offer some advice, stop being stupid, just for a moment, and listen.

I don't think anyone's ever said it any better than that--not to me, anyway. I'm going to link my visitors to that, if you don't mind the traffic.
