When 50% off is not 50% off

When it is "Buy one, get one free."

Because you are paying full retail for the first one, but the second one is only "costing" the seller their actual cost.

They are losing the profit off of the second item, but that assumes you would have bought the second, much less the first, in the first place.

What provoked this commentary? I don't remember, I started it over a month ago, but never finished it. I figured I'd better publish it now, lest the thought be lost forever.
