Today was a tough day work-wise.
I had to say goodbye to two of my team members.
I am really happy for both of them.
But, even though I am happy for them, I just hate saying good-bye. I guess I'm too sentimental.
I think the new job each one will be going to is a wonderful opportunity. I think each will be much happier in his new job, which makes me really happy for them.
On the other hand, getting the job done without them is going to be really tough. It is going to put a significant additional burden on the remaining members of the team.
Both were complimentary as far as my management skills were concerned. In fact, it was a little amusing, because both of them had similar commentary along the lines of "when you started managing the team, I thought you were a real jerk. But over time, I realized that while you expected a lot from us, you had our best interests, and the best interests of the customer, first and foremost." They each told me that they felt that I had helped them grow. That was extremely gratifying.
