Somethings old, somethings new

Jeanie got her new rings today.

It has been a long time since I have seen Jeanie this happy. She is so excited. It is so cool.

When Jeanie and I got engaged, I didn't have the money to buy her an engagement ring; in fact, I didn't even have a job. I did have a job lined up, and it was going to be six months before the wedding, so we decided that we would get a wedding band for her that had diamonds in it. We shopped quite a bit, and eventually found a very unique band that we both really liked. The ring had seven small diamonds set across the top in channel set wedges. For my band, we choose a fairly massive "stove pipe" style.

After a number of years, the diamonds started to loosen on Jeanie's band, so we took the ring to a jeweler to get repaired. The jeweler informed us that the ring had been poorly made, and that eventually the diamonds would fall out. Because of the poor design and manufacture, there was nothing that could be done to prevent this.

Jeanie didn't want to risk that, so she stopped wearing the band. During the same time, I pudged out, and my ring no longer fit, so I stopped wearing my band.

Each year, Jeanie would hint that she still hoped to have a solitaire some day, and each year, we would begrudgingly agree that we could not afford one.

Well, this year, Jeanie told me that what she really wanted for her 20th anniversary, and her birthday, and Christmas, was a solitaire, and a matching band to replace the old one.

After twenty years of putting up with me, that seemed a reasonable request.

Jeanie found a great a great local jeweler, J M Edwards Fine Jewelry, who could custom design and fabricate the rings of her dreams. Jeanie knew in her mind what she was looking for, and working together, they came up with an absolutely beautiful design incorporating a wave design channel set wedding band and a curving, sweeping solitaire which nestles into the wave of the wedding band.

To retain the sentimental value of the old rings, we used the diamonds from Jeanie's old wedding band for the new band, and the gold from both of our wedding bands for her new rings. Jeanie elected to use a diamond that my mother had given her for the solitaire.

Jeanie had tried to describe what the rings would look like, but I have trouble visualizing things, so I didn't really know what to expect.

Well, I have to admit, the result is absolutely stunning. As they say around here, "they done good!"

Jeanie also now has a new favorite saying... "all that glitters is not gold... sometimes it's the diamonds" ;-)

PS. maybe I should have titled this "Some ring old, some ring new" HAHAHAHA
