Digital Camera Dilemma - continued

I thought I had come up with a clever way to solve the camera conundrum...

Ritz Cameras has a very generous return policy. You can return any digital camera within ten days - no questions asked.

So, since I still could not decide between the Fuji and the Canon, I purchased both!

I figured I could bring them both home, and spend some quality time with each. I figured after a little bit of time with both cameras, a clear winner would emerge.

Well, I've spent quite a few hours playing with the two of them, and I'm no closer to making a decision.

In fact, I may be farther from making a decision.

Both cameras have features I really like, but both cameras have shortcomings.

The Canon would probably be victorious, but for one fatal (in my humble opinion) flaw: there is no exposure information available in the view finder. I am accustomed to using an SLR camera. As such, I am accustomed to having at least the shutter speed and aperture information available when looking through the viewfinder. The Canon does have this information available on the LCD, but I find it awkward trying to take pictures using the LCD rather than the viewfinder.

The Fuji has all sorts of information available in the viewfinder, since it employs an electronic, rather than optical, viewfinder. But, the auto-focus does not work well in even moderately low light conditions, and the viewfinder is too dim in these conditions to effectively manually focus.

In addition, the bodies of both cameras are thicker than I am used to, and I find it uncomfortable to hold them for extended periods.

So, I am now considering looking at a compact digital camera. I could still get a compact camera that afforded some creative control - albeit via the LCD - and it would be easier to carry and more comfortable to hold.

After doing lots more research, I am now leaning toward either the Canon S45 or the Minolta DiMAGE F100.

I'll keep you posted...
