Well, one camera got knocked out of the competition...
I downloaded the pictures from the Fuji to the computer last night. The picture quality was very disappointing. There was numerous deficiencies readily apparent that I couldn't see on the LCD on the camera including: poor focus, fuzzy edges, and color aberrations.
Part of the problem I think is due to the the AF mechanism. Part of the problem I think is due to slow shutter speeds. The Fuji has a f2.8 maximum aperture. Because the flash is of the pop-up variety, rather than the always-on variety, I think some of the pictures suffered from some camera shake. With an SLR, this would be expected, but with a more compact camera, one is accustomed to the flash working automatically if needed. While this might sometimes result in the flash being used when you don't want it, at least you don't run the risk of losing the shot altogether. I'd rather have flash illuminated sharp picture - even if creatively the photo would be better without flash, than a blurry naturally exposed shot.
So, the Fuji is back in its box, ready for return as soon as the roads clear.
