Tired

Yesterday was a long and tiring day...

I got started about 7:00 AM, a little earlier than usual, because I knew I had a lot to do.

The first big event of the day was a lunch time interview. I've started getting more aggressive about trying to find another position before my existing position vaporizes.

In a strange twist of fate, the person who is running the engagement that will eventually displace me has been working really hard to circulate my resume. One of the people that he circulated it to expressed some interest, so he scheduled a telephone interview last week. Based on the telephone interview, we both felt is was appropriate to continue the process. The next step was yesterday's face-to-face interview. Since we both work out of our homes (actually, in another interesting twist, he lives less than a mile from me), we decided to meet at a nearby restaurant.

I felt like the interview went very well. I got the impression that he will recommend that a second interview be conducted.

If I get the position, it will be (another) major career shift - and lifestyle shift - for me.

The position title is Technical Solution Manager. It is a commission sales position and will involve a lot (50%-80%) of travel. But, it sounds like a perfect fit for my skills and interests. Basically, I would be part of a sales team that put together large outsourcing proposals. I would be responsible for understanding the technical needs of the prospect, and then working with other team members to specify and price the solution.

I have a few other irons in the fire, but the TSM opportunity is definitely the most interesting at the moment.

Even though the interview went well in my opinion, I still find interviews to be exhausting. Between trying to be at 100% for an extended period during the interaction, there is the excitement and all the other emotions which surround an interview - which results in massive flows of natural stimulants. Once the interview was over and the "high" wore off, I was drained.

My afternoon was filled with my normal full docket of teleconferences. Since we weren't able to take Mom out on Tuesday, we decided to take her out yesterday.

After returning from dinner, I started hacking away at the sea of unread e-mail in my in-box.

About 11:00 PM, I decided it was time to call it a day. Unfortunately, the fates were not done with me yet.

Right as I was getting ready to stop working, Jeanie told me that she was feeling very ill. After a brief diagnostic discussion, it appeared that she was having an allergic reaction to the antibiotic she was taking to treat an infected wound on her thumb.

Jeanie is allergic to most antibiotics known to modern medicine, but as new drugs are released, the doctors keep trying new ones in the hopes of adding another to the list of ones she can take. In the past, if she has a reaction, it usually starts with a rash. This reaction was different - she felt like she was about to pass out, and her face and hands got numb.

I guess the local cops were on their break, because I set a new land speed record between the house and the emergency room.

The good news is, Jeanie's symptoms never got worse, other than her getting a migraine. The bad news is that we didn't get home until almost 3:00 AM.

Sure, the day could have been better, but it could have been much worse. So, given the gamut of possible outcomes for the day's events, overall, I would say it was a good, if tiring, day.

You and I both spent part of last night in the ER then. I had to drive myself, though. Glad to hear everything turned out all right.
