PC Parts

I spent part of Saturday installing some parts in the PC in the back room...

I had gotten a great deal ($99 AR) on a 175GB 7200 RPM hard drive, but hadn't gotten around to installing it. While I had the case open, I also installed an old Pinnacle TV tuner card I had laying around.

We now have enough disk in the machine in the back room that I can back up all of the important stuff from the main machine to the back room machine.

The performance of the TV tuner card is disappointing at best. I think the combination of a relatively slow processor (500 MHz), on-motherboard video, and a cheap TV tuner card are just more than the software can cope with. The picture quality is fair at best, and everything appears in slow motion... Oh well, I think the card was free after rebate, so it's not a big deal.

While I was doing computer stuff, I also gathered up all of my spare parts and put them in storage boxes. I really do need to sell some stuff I guess.

I do think it is cool that I now have over half a terabyte of disk spinning in the house.
