"And anyway, the stability of a thing, just like that of a man, does not consist in its being shielded from all disturbances and thus preserving a precarious balance; it consists in the ability to recover from disturbances that inevitably will occur, and to regain lost balance."
This struck me as some of the best wisdom I've com across in quite some time.
Especially interesting given that it was offered in the middle of a quite technical explanation of the elements of aircraft stability.
And why, might you be wondering, would I be reading a such a book?
Because, if all goes well, within the next few months, I will be dusting off that twenty year old private pilot's certificate, and getting back into the air as a driver, rather than just a passenger - albeit in a much smaller bus.
