Yet Another Day In Paradise

Today, we decided to do the sightseeing thing...

Even though we've tooled around the island before, we had never made it to the northwestern portion of the island, so, with our trusty Echo underseat, we ventured forth...

Out of Mahogany Run, we headed west on 42, then south/west on 35, then west on 37 to Hull Bay, a lovely quiet bay with many moored boats.

As with most of the island, the views are absolutely beautiful. Unlike the roads on the south and east sides of the island, the roads on the north and west side had a number of "scenic overlook" areas where we could safely pull off the road to get out and really savor the views.

Right near the Hull Bay beach was the Hull Bay Hideaway Restaurant and Bar. Given that we were feeling adventurous, and hungry, we decided to give it a try. Good choice! The setting was lovely, with entertainment provided by a guitar playing folk-singer, and the food was delicious and reasonable. As has been the trend this trip, the service was lackluster, but not so bad as to spoil the meal.

Out of Hull Bay, we continued west on 40 and then took a detour east on 33 to hit Mountain Top, where we enjoyed the beautiful views and a tasty world famous banana daiquiri. Being so high (altitude, not alcohol!) we were treated to a fantastic view of Megan Bay and Mahogany Run.

We then headed back west on 33 until it intersected 301.

Along the way was another scenic overlook which gave us a great view of the south-central coast and the airport.

301 led us to 30 which we followed west until it became more pot hole than road near William Head.

We then headed back east, as that was the only direction we could travel, staying on 30 past the airport and the University of the Virgin Islands. We dropped by the Blockbuster Video in Charlotte Amalie where we added to our collection of memberships and rented two movies in preparation for a planned night-in featuring Movies and a pizza - the pizza to be supplied by the Pizza Hut at Tutu mall, delivered by Bob and David's delivery service.

By the way... not to rub it in too bad, but it is pretty cool sitting here writing this blog entry out on the patio, overlooking the beautiful blue ocean, a gentle breeze whispering through the palms...
