I don't typically remember my dreams, and on the rare occasions that I have, I can't remember a time when I awoke with a particular word stuck in my head...
Until today.
The word was - onomatopoeia.
Here's the crazy thing...
I didn't even know what it meant.
Obviously, I've heard it before, and I knew that I had heard it before - although I thought the "t" was an "n." Thank goodness for Google and the handful of other people on the web who thought the same thing, and for Merriam-Webster OnLine which is smart enough to give alternative suggestions for misspelled words - unlike Google's define: search construct.
In case you are wondering what onomatopoeia means, here are a couple of references
While I was searching, I was reminded of another word which I like, the use of which - at least the stylistic device to which it refers - apparently is sometimes used in conjunction with onomatopoeia. That word is alliteration.
I also had the Grateful Dead's "Friend Of The Devil" running in the background as a soundtrack to the dream, but that's another story...
